Alvaro Morata to Man Utd: Real Madrid star to seal £64m transfer on Monday
Manchester United are keen to sign Real Madrid striker Morata as a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Despite scoring 28 goals, the 35-year-old has been released as he steps up his bid to recover from a serious knee ligament injury.
The Red Devils were keen on Antoine Griezmann but, with Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban lasting until January, have had to turn their attentions to other targets.
Everton’s Romelu Lukaku was another name on their list but Express Sport understands he is closing in on a return to Chelsea, three years after Jose Mourinho let him leave Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho is attempting to bolster his frontline after a goal shy first season at the helm, where his United team managed just 54 goals from 38 Premier League games.
Reports have suggested Morata has already told Real he is leaving, while the Telegraph claim he has already agreed personal terms with the club.
And Spanish radio station Onda Cero say the striker will travel to Manchester on Monday to pen a five-year deal.
“Morata goes to ManUtd for 73 million euros,” journalist Brujula del Deporte said.
“The intention of the player is to travel on Monday to sign for five seasons.”
Morata scored 20 goals from 43 games as Real won the Champions League and La Liga.
The forward will likely link up with Mourinho again – the man who gave him his Real debut back in December 2010.
Since then the 24-year-old’s stock has risen and a move to Old Trafford as Ibrahimovic’s replacement now looks on the cards.
